Local man raises £2,000 for childrens' charity

A local businessman has raised a staggering £2,000 for charity by running the London Marathon.

PHAB Kids – a national charity which integrates people with and without physical disabilities – will benefit as a result of David Thomson's 4 hour and 41 minute marathon run, which he endured alongside 36,500 others in sweltering temperatures on April 22.

It was his first marathon for David (38) who lives in Kettering and operates an insurance website, BestDealInsurance.co.uk from its offices in Wellingborough and, he says, it was "an amazing experience".

David – who started training for the event six months ago - continues: "the atmosphere was brilliant. It was massively hot though, but when I started to flag, the thought of how much money I could raise to help the kids kept me going."

He says he decided to support the charity – which has been running for fifty years – after hearing about the difficulties faced by disabled and handicapped children and their families. "PHAB kids do such wonderful work and make such a difference," he says "that I wanted to do my bit and help".

When asked whether he would be running the marathon again next year, David, who is married with two children laughed and said: "If my legs ever stop aching, I most definitely will!"
