Check Property & Contents Home Insurance in Preparation for Cold Weather

As the summer weather begins to wane, and the colder winter looms on the horizon, experts have urged individuals to check their property & contents home insurance. With cold snaps often causing damage to properties through burst pipes or slipped roof tiles, and objects stored in sheds and garages vulnerable to theft, experts advised revising policies and purchasing new ones if needed.

Whilst warm and long evenings have led many people to fill their gardens with furniture and entertainment, shorter days signal the time to shut up these valuables before they come under fire from frost and damp. However, with Halifax recently revealing that the average claim for a theft from a garden was £337, people should make sure that locks and even security lights are in place to deter burglars.

Meanwhile, Sainsbury's Finance revealed that 20per cent of personal loans taken earlier this year had been used for home improvements. As such, property & contents home insurance holders have been urged to check their policies and make sure that alterations are covered by contract clauses. With bad weather sometimes causing significant damage to both buildings and their contents, is it vital that adequate insurance is held. However, building alterations or expensive renovations could cause policies to become inadequate or even invalidated.

Therefore, as the nights draw in, and the colder weather sets in, individuals are advised to check their policies and ensure that they have enough insurance to cover damage which may occur this winter.
