Kiln Expands Number of Medical Insurance Companies Offering Cover for HIV

Those living with HIV have, for some time, undergone a stigma from the insurance sector. Unable to obtain life insurance without undergoing stressful and sometimes invasive medicals and questionnaires, the number of individuals with the virus and without protection remains high. However, Kiln has revealed that they are re-launching a policy for those with HIV, increasing the number of medical insurance companies to offer such products.

Named Harbour, individuals wishing to gain cover needn't provide medical reports or undergo medical examination. Designed specifically for those with HIV, life insurance of £10,000 or £25,000 can be gained, with an additional accidental death option increasing financial protection up to £200,000.

There are currently approximately 83,000 people within the UK diagnosed with HIV and whilst the number still increases, modern medicine and new drugs are having a significant impact upon the health and lifespan of those living with the virus. This has created the possibility for some medical insurance companies to offer limited protection to those in the HIV community, providing a vital and much need source of financial protection for sufferers and their loved ones. With expensive premiums often held by those with the virus, the new Harbour policy also offers charts to guide individuals to the cost of cover they need against the cover that they can afford, making the application process as simple as possible and giving HIV sufferers important financial protection.
