Home Contents Insurance Highlighted by Electrical Recall
Home contents insurance is vital for any individual looking to protect their belongings within the household. Often covering items stored outside in sheds too, and in some cases even the contents of an individual's purse, contents insurance provides the peace of mind that if goods are stolen, broken or damaged, they can be replaced or repaired at no cost to the owner. And the need for both adequate building and home contents insurance has been highlighted this week as Candy, an electronics company, issued a recall on a number of devices at risk of starting a fire.
As Candy put out the announcement, Which? the UK consumer watchdog explained that a number of hob, oven and all-in-one dishwasher appliances coming off the production line in the period between 2005 and 2008 could hold a fault which increases their fire risk. Easily fixed by a technician, a statement from the electrical company explained "Although the risk is very small, we have become aware and are concerned that an extremely low probability exists of overheating of a wiring harness which could, in rare cases, result in fire." They added that serial numbers of affected devices could be compared on their website and if matches were made they advised no further use of the item until it had been serviced by an engineer.
The case has highlighted the need and importance of having home contents insurance to protect items at home. As a place where the majority of people hold some of their most valued possessions, ensuring that financial loss does not occur from damage is highly important in the current economic climate.
