Contents, Home Insurance Flood Risk Factor
The potential flood risks in relation to your property are becoming a more pertinent issue in relation to your contents insurance. Just last year Cumbrian residents experienced the onslaught of damage to homes caused by floods. The Environment Agency has now released figures, which show that a total of 48,000 homes were affected which an average cost per property of £30,000. In fact, over the past ten years, hundreds of thousands of homes have been damaged by the three major floods across England.
As a result of these experiences and the environmental factors that mean flooding is likely to become more prevalent in the years to come, the Landmark Information Group in association with the National Flood Forum have launched the 'Know Your Flood Risk' campaign which already has 150 members. This aim is to provide awareness, which will allow homeowners to ensure their contents insurance provides effective protection based on their flooding risk factors. The campaign is targeting all homeowners and commercial property owners.
This is important information considering that the Environment Agency estimate that one in six homes throughout England could be at risk from flood damage. They actually predict that £20 billion will need to be spent on flood prevention over the next 25 years. Flood risk specialist Rupert Evans believes that awareness must be raised since floods are sure to become more common. People need to make sure they are covered for all eventualities. The message is clear - know your flood risk and minimise the detrimental effect of flooding.
