Socks and pants 'worst Christmas presents', Churchill home and buildings insurance finds

Tips on what not to buy people as Christmas gifts have been given by Churchill home and buildings insurance.

A poll from the empty home insurance in UK provider shows that an "unfashionable" or "out-of-date" item of clothing is the worst-possible present that can be received for 26 per cent of people.

Meanwhile, one in five males said that socks were their nightmare gift - while 23 per cent of women said that lingerie was their most-hated present.

Claire Foster, spokesperson for Churchill home insurance, commented: "The research shows people enjoy getting into the spirit of Christmas and swapping gifts. It seems almost inevitable that at some point they'll receive things that they aren't keen on."

Churchill also asked poll respondents what they did with unwanted Christmas presents.

Just over one in five said that they sold them on, generally through auction websites or car boot sales.ADNFCR-850-ID-18910892-ADNFCR
