The firm behind Saga household buildings and contents insurance has produced some interesting figures on pet stress.
Home contents insurance provider Saga says that 90 per cent of people keep a pet for companionship, with 85 per cent admitting that their animals make them feel happier.
The main worries that come with having a pet, the Saga household buildings and contents insurance provider revealed, are large vet bills (93 per cent) or illness (92 per cent).
According to Saga: "The appearance of a glossy coat and general health of the pet is also a high priority of pet owners with 72 per cent rating this within their top 10 worries."
When owners had to leave their pet at home for an extended period of time, the responsibility for caring for the animal tended to be left to either a friend or neighbour (27 per cent) or a relative (25 per cent).
