Liverpool Victoria home insurance announces crime hotspots
The university towns in which students face the biggest risk of falling victim to crime have been revealed by Liverpool Victoria home insurance.
Research from the firm found that Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham were the most crime-ridden spots.
However, the student home owner insurance provider also showed the three places where students were safest from being burgled or mugged: Lancaster, Durham and St Andrews.
More specifically, the university town with the highest number of thefts from households and vehicles was revealed as Manchester.
The northern city was also found to be the place with the second-highest incidence of thefts of vehicles, beaten only by Birmingham.
Emma Holyer, spokesperson for Liverpool Victoria home insurance, commented: "When you are starting university it's easy to overlook sorting out insurance when there are so many other things to think about but students can become victims of crime like any other person. Students should put insurance cover in place for their possessions and also update their car insurance if they are moving away from home."
