Tesco home contents insurance provider releases car research
Car trends have been tracked by the provider of Tesco home contents insurance.
According to the new study, the average Porsche driver is 39 years old - leading the over 50 home insurance firm to dub it the "mid-life crisis car of choice".
Tesco also found that the Aston Martin DB7 was similarly favoured by the Clarkson generation: with a mean age for owners of 42.
'Del Boys' were shown to be slightly younger - Robin Reliant drivers being, on average, 35 years old.
The typical driver of 80s icon the Audi Quattro, the vehicle of choice for Ashes to Ashes' Gene Hunt, was found to be 46.
Commenting on the research, Tesco's Paul Baxter said: "This research has thrown up some surprising results - with cars we think are normally owned by the young having a surprisingly high typical age and visa versa. It seems the image of the driver created by car manufacturing advertising campaigns is not always the reality."
He added: "Just because you are turning 40 and want to splash out on a Porsche doesn't mean you need to pay as much for your insurance as all other Porsche drivers. Regardless of what age you are and what car you drive - you should shop around to make sure you get the cheapest and most appropriate insurance for you."
