Sainsbury's home insurance provider: 1.15m drivers don't have cover

 

The provider of Sainsbury's home insurance has found that 1.15 million Britons have driven while uninsured in the past year.

A new survey from Sainsbury's also shows that two-fifths of this total were motorists aged 17 to 24 - the group which causes the proportionally greatest number of accidents.

Moreover, the cheap buildings and contents insurance provider found that a further 22 per cent were aged under 34.

Sainsbury's said that the number of court cases involving uninsured drivers stood at 393,000 for the latest year's results available.

The insurance firm also claimed that the cost of the illegal trend adds up to £30 to the average UK premium.

When the uninsured drivers were asked why they had not taken out cover, 19 per cent said that it was because they "could not afford" it - while 13 per cent admitted that they had "forgotten" to get insured.
