Royal Bank of Scotland home insurance affiliate comments on cars
The provider of Royal Bank of Scotland home insurance has issued a reaction to new learner drivers' proposals from the government.
A recent public consultation on driver training and testing recommended that motorists should take extra driving lessons even after they pass their tests.
In this way, on-the-road skills can be enhanced by those who already hold licences, rather than be allowed to regress.
Director of motor underwriting at the cheap home and buildings insurance provider Andy Goldby commented: "We are keen to work with the Government to develop a system that produces safer novice drivers and reduces the appalling number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
"We are pleased to see proposals to encourage young people to take advanced post-test driving courses."
Mr Golby added that "sustained evidence" that such extra tests improved driving skills would be needed if insurance premiums were to come down as a result.
