Churchill house insurance warns of DIY mishaps

 

Churchill house insurance has issued a warning over DIY accidents that could occur over the bank holiday weekend as people paint, decorate and renocate.

The insurance contents provider cites research stating that Brits have about £2.6 billion in accidents a year while doing DIY

Churchill adds that contents building insurance claims can cost up to £540 in accidental damage, forcing householders to take stock of their home insurance policies.

Martin Scott, head of Churchill home insurance, commented: "Householders who have elected to include accidental damage cover under their home insurance policy have the added reassurance that they are covered if a DIY accident causes damage in the home."

Examples of accidents taking place included breaking furniture by falling off a ladder and spilling paint on the carpet.

The research also found that more than half (51 per cent) of homeowners admit to not being very good at DIY, underlining the necessity for adequate home insurance.
